We all know that when we look at an LED light bulb, it’s more than just a light. Common LED Bulb Components The key components for every LED bulb are: The light-emitting diode (LED), The heat sink, The driver, The lens. Every element contributes to the effective functioning of the LED bulb.
The primary component of an LED bulb is the light emitting diode (LED). It is a tiny object that produces light when electricity passes through it. LEDs are fine because they consume less and have a long life which makes them an excellent luminary. A plastic or glass lens encases the LED to diffuse the light.
Another key component of an LED bulb is the heat sink. It also assists in dissipating the heat produced by the LED so it doesn’t overheat. This is good for the life of the bulb. The heat sink is typically aluminum or some other metal that conducts the heat away from the LED.
The driver is the component that regulates the electricity to the LED. It converts the power from the outlet to the type of power the LED can use. The driver also helps the LED shine brighter or dimmer, and ensures it is protected from power fluctuations that might damage it.
The lens is the part on the outside of the LED bulb that protects the inner components and shapes the light. The lens may be transparent, translucent or colored so as to produce desired visual lighting effects. Some LED bulbs are designed to shine in all directions — including in your eyes — while others even have a reflector in the lens to direct toward you.
